FAQ image

What if my kid doesn’t like sports?

No problem at all. We’re about building confidence, respect, and strong habits. A lot of kids who didn’t like sports love this. Ask your child if they enjoy PE class at school? Our classes enhance the training through games and skill development. When we think about why someone doesn't like sports it's often for low skill, low confidence, as soon as we help them overcome this your child will be more open to other physical activities too. Let's schedule a lesson to explore what these goals look like at Family Legacy Fitness.

What makes Family Legacy Fitness different from other martial arts schools?

At Family Legacy Fitness, we believe martial arts should help students grow both on and off the mat. Our mission is to strengthen family connection while building habits that create your legacy.

We focus on more than punches and kicks. Students build discipline, resilience, focus, leadership, emotional growth, self-defense skills, and healthier habits through positive challenges and encouragement.

Our classes are designed to help kids, teens, adults, and families become mentally and physically stronger together in a supportive community environment.

Is your program beginner friendly?

Absolutely.

Many of our students start with zero martial arts experience. Our classes are designed to help beginners feel comfortable, encouraged, and successful from day one.

We break skills down step-by-step while helping students build coordination, discipline, focus, and self-belief at their own pace.

What age should kids start martial arts?

Many children can begin martial arts training around ages 4–5 in an age-appropriate beginner program.

Our younger student classes focus on:

listening skills

following directions

coordination

focus

teamwork

emotional growth

positive habits

As students grow older, training evolves into leadership, resilience, goal setting, self-defense, and stronger physical conditioning.

Is martial arts safe for kids?

Safety is one of our highest priorities.

Classes are supervised closely, and students are taught:

control

respect

awareness

proper technique

safe training habits

Our goal is to create a positive environment where students can challenge themselves while learning how to train responsibly and safely.

What if my child struggles with focus or behavior?

Many parents are looking for positive outlets that help their children develop:

structure

accountability

emotional regulation

perseverance

healthier habits

Martial arts gives students consistent opportunities to practice these life skills through movement, repetition, goal setting, and positive mentorship.

While every child is different, many families notice improvements in attitude, focus, effort, and self-control over time.

Do you offer martial arts classes for teens?

Yes.

Our teen martial arts program focuses on:

leadership

discipline

self-defense

fitness

perseverance

How do I get started?

Getting started is simple.

Can martial arts help improve social skills?

Martial arts helps students practice teamwork, communication, respect, leadership, and positive interaction in a supportive environment. We speak our student creed out loud to help students learn to project their voice. We teach concepts for how to make friends, show respect, set boundaries. We teach Leadership drills that give student's opportunity to guide their friends.

Will my child receive individual attention?

Yes. Instructors work to encourage every student while helping them grow at their own pace in a positive class environment. We do look at each student's unique needs and goals. During the group class instructors will guide the group and provide individual feedback. During private lessons your child can really grow, just ask for availability.

Can martial arts help kids build healthier habits?

Martial arts encourages consistency, discipline, goal setting, physical activity, focus, and positive daily habits for long-term growth. We encourage kids to try new foods, drink more water, eat healthier choices, practice physical training at home, and even discipline themselves to clean up after their own messes.

How does martial arts help with bullying?

Martial arts helps students build awareness, boundaries, resilience, and self-defense skills in challenging situations. Not all martial arts schools teach real self-defense and many just focus on the moves. What makes our training unique is we teach about situational awareness and recognizing the signs of an attack. We teach verbal de-escalation and diffusing techniques. We teach about what is self defense vs retribution. We also explain the levels of force and when it's time to escalate your response. After the altercation it's important to teach our students and your child how to explain what happened so it's clear that it was self defense. In school kids rarely get into fights although that is what the schools call them, it's almost always one kid attacking another. We must teach these concepts to our kids and it's complexity, our team is professional and capable of helping your child understand them.

Martial arts helps many kids with ADHD practice focus, structure, listening, self-control, and positive routines through movement and repetition. Setting goals and objectives gives them something to aim for and become task oriented.

Do you work with children on the autism spectrum?

We strive to create a welcoming environment that encourages growth, structure, patience, and positive social interaction for every student. We have seen many student's come through our door and even achieve black belt. For some students we encourage the parent's to join them in class for assistance in the physical movements. My heart gets so full when I see a child with low functioning autism finally be able to connect the physical kick and punch on cue. It's brought tears to my eyes and the families seeing this growth. Please come and feel welcomed here.

Can martial arts help with emotional regulation?

Martial arts teaches students how to stay calm under pressure, practice self-control, overcome frustration, and build resilience. We teach what the signs of frustration look like in ourselves.
