First Belt Testing
Your first belt test is a confidence belt. Meaning that you have started a new activity learned what the basic expectations are and now seeing the process for how we test skills and rank levels for advancement.
After white belt its a minimum 4-6 weeks for your first belt testing. Afterwards, it's 3 months between belt tests for Yellow through Green Belts. Then its 3-6 months for Brown and Red Belt Levels. One Year between Junior Black Belts. Multiple years between adult level Black Belts.
Belt testing is showing that you understand the common mistakes for your level and how to fix them. That represents Self-Discipline. This habit is more seen at the intermediate to advance levels.
For white belt and beginner levels (Less than one year of training) we look for respect which is listening the first time to your coaches. As we remind you to do the skills correctly you will build habits.
Self Defense is taught in phases:
Beginners learn the technique and skill with situational awareness.
Intermediate requires sparring, resistance and scenario training.
Advance requires grappling with wrestling, judo & jiujitsu with advance scenario training.
Black Belts are continued challenges with strategy, resistance and pressure testing.

We’ve been part of this martial arts program for the past five years, and it’s been such a great experience for our family. My nieces attend, and it’s been amazing to watch how much they’ve grown over the years. The confidence, discipline, and respect they’ve developed really stand out, both in class and in everyday life, especially in learning how to stand up for themselves and defend against bullying. The staff is wonderful, always attentive, patient, and encouraging with the kids. You can tell they truly care about each child and the progress they make. The positive environment they create makes a huge difference, and it shows in the way the kids carry themselves. I highly recommend this program to any parent looking for a supportive place where their children can grow, learn, and build confidence.

We can’t say enough great things about Family Legacy Fitness and Tim Rook! Our family started martial arts years ago in Georgia, and after moving to the area about 18 months ago, we tried several martial arts schools before finding FLF. Without question, Family Legacy Fitness has the most well-rounded program we’ve experienced.
From beginner martial arts classes for young kids all the way through advanced black belt training, FLF creates an encouraging, family-oriented environment focused on fitness, confidence, responsibility, leadership, and strong family values.
Our daughter came to FLF already a black belt, and we’ve still seen tremendous growth in her confidence, leadership skills, and maturity during her time here. She now serves as an assistant instructor, and we love seeing how the program encourages older students to mentor and lead younger kids.
Tim and the entire FLF team genuinely care about every student and work hard to build both character and skill. The classes are structured, motivating, and welcoming for all experience levels.
FLF also offers some of the most unique and exciting summer camps we’ve seen, with themes like filmmaking, stunt work, and entrepreneurship. Tim’s background as a professional stuntman brings such a fun and memorable element to the experience.
If you’re looking for kids martial arts, family fitness, black belt training, or a supportive martial arts community, we highly recommend Family Legacy Fitness!

Mr Tim and his team are awesome. I just wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank Mr Zach for the incredible care, patience, and kindness you have shown Payton and Brooke.
From the very beginning, you have been so welcoming, supportive, and understanding. Your calm and encouraging approach has made such a difference, not only for them but for me as their mother. It means more than I can fully express to know they are in an environment where they are treated with respect, given patience, and genuinely cared for.
You have a special way of connecting with them, building their trust, and helping them feel comfortable and confident. That is not something I take lightly, and I am truly grateful.
Thank you for being someone we can trust and for creating such a positive experience for my children. Your impact is meaningful, and we appreciate you more than you know.
With sincere gratitude,
Ashley Thomas-Agee
